Jung Seung-hwan, who was discharged from the military in January, will release a digital single "In Spring" and begin his activities in earnest. Jung Seung-hwan's new album is about a year and 11 months after the digital single "EPILOGUE" released in June 2023.
Jung Seung-hwan, who met with Mail Business Star Today ahead of the release of the new single, said, "I came out on vacation in October last year and talked with the company about this and that, and we talked about releasing an album in May," adding, "I'm especially nervous because it's my first official move after being discharged from the military." I feel like I'm back as a singer now," he said.
Jung Seung-hwan, who joined the Army in July 2023 and served in the Army's military band, was discharged from the military last January. When asked if he missed the stage while in the military, Jung Seung-hwan replied, "I wanted to go on TV."
"When you watch TV in the military's interior class, an acquaintance comes out and sings. I was jealous of that. It was good to meet fans offline, and I wanted to release a song, but the number one priority was broadcasting. I think I thought a lot about wanting to sing on the show."
Did he change his mindset after he was discharged from the military. He said, "In the past, I think there was a part where I was fascinated by something trivial and missed something important, but I think I'm relaxed in that part. Before joining the army, I had a desire to care about everything and embrace it in music work, but now I trust and leave it to those who help me in areas I can't do. I feel like I've become a little more adult," he said.
Jung Seung-hwan was active at the same time as he was discharged from the military. In February, 20 days after his discharge from the military, he appeared on KBS2's music program "The Seasons-Lee Young-ji's Rainbow," and held a fan concert "University of Seung-Hwan" in April.
When he said that he would have realized his return through fan concerts and broadcasting activities, he said, "I had a concert just before I went to the army, and the fans who came then felt like they were back at the appointment place even after a short period of time. "I performed for three hours with the emotion of 'my heart is the same,'" he said.
Jung Seung-hwan's new digital single "Spring," which will be released at 6 p.m. on the 13th, contains two love stories that resemble spring when emotions that had been frozen as if everything were blooming. The title song "One More Day" and the track "Let's Meet Again on the Spring Road When Cherry Blossoms Fall" all bloom modestly, starting with acoustic guitars, giving a spectacular sense of immersion toward the second half.
When asked when he had been preparing for the album, Jung Seung-hwan said, "I was an old friend with a composer who is working as a producer at the company, so I talked about it whenever I came out on vacation. "I started working on it in earnest around early February, and I worked on 'One More Day' as the title song while listening to various songs in her studio," he said.
"One More Day" is a standard ballad song that tells the story of heartbreaking love that everyone has experienced at least once, and allows you to feel Jung Seung-hwan's emotions in the early days of his debut. Even if you try hard and make a commitment, you will eventually look at the other person again.
"I vaguely thought that I wanted to make a song related to love." While writing the lyrics, I looked at various things to materialize, and Makoto Shinkai's "5 Centimeters per Second" inspired me greatly in writing and composing. It's an animation that I really love, so I've been thinking about expressing this story in music for a long time, but I think I solved what I was holding like a homework while composing "One More Day."(laughs)
Jung Seung-hwan, who was recognized for his ability by winning the runner-up prize in SBS audition program "K-Pop Star Season 4," which aired in 2015, joined Antenna, represented by Yoo Hee-yeol, and made his singer debut with his first mini album "Voice" in 2016.
Looking back on the past 10 years, he said, "When I first came into the antenna, I was 20, but I turned 30 this year. At that time, I really didn't know anything, so I relied on the CEO from one to ten. "If there was nothing I could say because I didn't know anything when discussing the musical part, now I think I've grown a lot as my career has built up and my own world has expanded," he said.
"When I was young, there was a part where I was narrow-minded and only my stubbornness was put first, but now those things have been reduced. I learned to think flexibly about music or human relationships while working with the CEO and the company. I learned how to cover the whole a little more through the CEO," he added.
Then, what kind of singer does Jung Seung-hwan want to be remembered by the public.
"I want to be a singer who can be explained with just one voice." Anyway, my voice is like a singer's fingerprint, so I think I want to become a singer with pretty fingerprints. As we're about to do official activities after a long time, we're full of venom. If I get a chance, I'll work hard on content and broadcasting, so I want you to know that Jung Seung-hwan is back.(laughs)
