"The Penguin” feels mechanical and recycled, constructed rather than imagined. Mob-movie clichés about honor and service are recited in lifeless dialogue and then recited again; the action often undercuts them but not in any witty or exciting way.

Donald S Cristin Milioti and Colin Farrell deserve all the acting Emmys. This show travels at a frightening speed from the opening scene onwards. Penguin is constantly thinking on his feet and it makes for a riveting Sopranos esque gangster thriller but this never slows down. Matt Reeves has done an astonishing job with this and I can't wait to see what happens next. Special shout outs to episodes 1 and 4, episode 4 is a work of genius by Milioti as Sofia Falcone. I'm a huge Batman fan, so I thought I'd miss Batman in it, but this is a great standalone series and even those who aren't familiar with the comics would enjoy this phenomenal television.
